October Journey

Inspiration can come from the strangest quarters. Take the image above; a nice little landscape with shadows, atmospheric perspective and a very limited palette of 12 Holbein pastels. It took a little less than 2 hours to paint. But this road led to another zone. Once I had rendered this realistic-looking picture, I decided I had reached a long-term goal. I had reached a rung on the impressionist painting ladder that I had sought. And now it was time to move on. The next day I went crazy . . . becoming a mad scientist of paint.
